The Mae Wae workshop, located in a village of the same name, provides local women with employment opportunities.  The workshop cooperative produces traditional cultural Karen garb that is sold in locations in France and Thailand.  With an increased demand for the clothing, the workshop contacted Solbakken to provide electricity so that electric sewing machines could be used.  Supported by the EDF Foundation and Schneider Electric, Solbakken with technical help from Andrew Pascale, installed a 3kw solar system that now powers sewing machines, irons, lights, and a refrigerator in March of 2018.
